This is the opposite of a problem.
TO DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM
The best bit was he tweeted Waterstones and politely asked them to let him out.
No-one from Waterstones was on their Twitter account at that time of night, but half of London was still awake and soon after #WaterstonesTexan and #FreetheWaterstones1 were trending across the city. The police were notified and managed to let him out before midnight :D
Afterwards Waterstones tweeted “We’re pleased to announce that @DWill_ is a free man once more.” (x)
They’ve also compiled a reading list for their future locked-in clients
This is the best thing I’ve heard all day.
The compiling of the reading list for locked in clients is perhaps the best thing about this.
I fantasized about this as a child. I still fantasize about this.

“Children are required to be in school, where their freedom is greatly restricted, far more than most adults would tolerate in their workplaces. In recent decades we’ve been compelling them to spend ever more time in this kind of setting, and there’s strong evidence that this is causing psychological damage to many of them. And as scientists have investigated how children naturally learn, they’ve realized that kids do so most deeply and fully, and with greatest enthusiasm, in conditions that are almost opposite to those of school….
Most people assume that the basic design of today’s schools emerged from scientific evidence about how children learn. But nothing could be further from the truth.
Schools as we know them today are a product of history, not research.
….
Research has shown that people of all ages learn best when they are self-motivated, pursuing answers to questions that reflect their personal interests and achieving goals that they’ve set for themselves. Under such conditions, learning is usually joyful.
The evidence for all of this is obvious to anyone who’s watched a child grow from infancy to school age. Through their own efforts, children figure out how to walk, run, jump, and climb. They learn from scratch their native language, and with that, they learn to assert their will, argue, amuse, annoy, befriend, charm, and ask questions.
….They do all of this before anyone, in any systematic way, tries to teach them anything.
This amazing drive and capacity to learn does not turn itself off when children reach five or six. But we turn it off with our coercive system of schooling.”Thank

Ameena Matthews is a former gang member who now enters Chicago’s most dangerous neighborhoods and mediates disputes before they erupt into violence. When Matthews was heavily involved in gang activities, it was her Muslim faith, her children and grandmother who served as her own violence interrupters: “[My grandmother] would step in the middle of raids, asking, ‘Where’s Ameena?’ Guns were drawn and she’s not even looking at the guns or the gas that was thrown in the building to smoke us out, she’s yelling my name and telling me to get my behind out. … She was there.”
Please pray for sister Ameena as battles cancer. There has been a gofundme set up to help cover her medical expenses and bone marrow transplant. I am currently on my phone and unable to link to the fund, but if you Google her name it will come up. Keep her in your duaat

While no one was looking, Congress passed a bill addressing police killings
After watching nationwide protests unfold against police brutality, members of Congress did what they have seemed incapable of doing for years: something.
A bill passed by both chambers of Congress and headed to President Barack Obama’s desk will require local law enforcement agencies to report every police shooting and other death at their hands. That data will include each victim’s age, gender and race as well as details about what happened.
