President Obama’s “before and after” reaction to the Supreme Court ruling.

President Obama is a Hypocrite In 2008, he said:  "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.“

On Wednesday, by contrast, he said:  "I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”

This just in: people aren’t allowed to change their minds about same-sex marriage.

Many of those 7,000 that survived escaped death because of Miki Endo’s broadcast. Miki Endo did not let go of her microphone, even during the very moment the black waves of the tsunami engulfed the city, so that every last villager could hear her warning call.

A survivor, 61 year-old Taeza Haga, told Endo’s mother that the broadcast had saved his live. That he had heard Endo’s voice and immediately jumped in his car and headed for higher ground. He told Endo’s mother:

“I heard the voice of your daughter the whole way.”

Here is a 10 second clip of her broadcast: [x]

did anyone realize that california laws went into effect today that allows trans* youth to pick which bathroom and sports team they feel comfortable with in school

i think that’s the bee’s knees

Don’t let this go unnoticed. The fact that gay marriage is legal is absolutely something to celebrate, but so is this

On the early morning of June 27, activists in South Carolina gathered to take down the confederate flag flying above the Capitol before the funerals for 3 of the victims of the Charleston massacre begin. There is also supposed to be a “defend the flag” action later today.

A black woman identified as Bree climbed the flag pole and took the flag down herself. She was arrested shortly after climbing back down with the flag.

Check fergusonaction on twitter for more updates.

This is such an excellent direct action. The flag is back up now, but forcing the police to choose to defend it, and the state to choose to put it back up = brilliant.

Her name is Bree Newsome, and in a statement, she said, “Deciding to do what the SC Legislature has thus far neglected to do, [a group of concerned citizens] took down the symbol of white supremacy that inspired the massacre, continued to fly at full mast in defiance of South Carolina’s grief, and flew in defiance of everyone working to actualize a more equitable Carolinian future.”

She was arrested along with another person. Both of them are charged with defacing a monument, which carries three years in jail and a $5000 fine.

(See this article from Democracy Now, which also notes that the two state employees whose job it was to put the flag up again are African-American.)
