Breaks my heart. He asked for help and all they gave him was sleeping pills.

This is real! ptsd is no joke!

That anyone denies the reality of masculine expendability is astonishing to me.

I’m pissed at the judge.

Even if he’s young as you are, take time to talk to our fighting forces. They see some serious shit out there, and unless they find a way to let it out through talking, they’ll end up in trouble thanks to a misunderstanding society. Please, help out those who fought for you.

My father is a war vet who suffers from PTSD.  I’m not kidding when I say all they need is some understanding.

My dad needed more than understanding. He needed real medical help. No one listened to my family. We went to the VA and they gave him nothing.

My dad’s PTSD manifested as extreme paranoia and abusive behavior. It made our lives miserable. It made me suicidal. It was obvious and scary to everyone we knew, and no one did a thing about it.

We tried everything to help him and he just got worse. Finally he attacked our disabled dog and I tried to stop him and he told me and my mother that he was going to kill us. I made my mom go straight to the police as soon as we could get away. She got a restraining order. I haven’t seen him in over five years. It’s been the happiest time of my life.

We are the lucky ones. We are all still alive, my dad included.

Another officer in my hometown openly abused his wife and children and eventually strangled his son and shot himself. Days before, the wife went to the same police station and begged that they protect her son. They did nothing.

A third veteran from our area tried to shoot his wife, and then gave another gun to his son and told him they were playing a game. When he went after his wife again, the son shot and killed his own father.

Veterans don’t need your pity. They need real help. A pat on the back or sleeping pills doesn’t cut it. I honestly don’t even know if there is a solution. I spent 12 years of my life waiting for one.

if a veteran is dangerous to the people around them, do something about it. Don’t turn a blind eye out of “respect”. That’s not real respect at all and it helps no one.

Please help protect the people who put their lives on the line to protect us. Please protect their families.

PS: please please don’t ignore this post it has so few notes and people need to reblog the shit out if it

PTSD is real and it effects both men AND women who’ve served in the armed forces (fun side quest: spot the MRA who reblogged this). The VA seems universally useless at getting anyone the help they need, whether their lingering injuries are physical or mental. A public that alternates between hero worshipping and vilifying veterans for the wars they were asked to fight doesn’t help.

I wish movies could be about LGBT characters without being written off as “gay movies”. Why don’t you just call it a “movie”? Nobody calls your movies “straight movies”.
