Oh wow didn’t expect the end.

While I agree with the message, we should also be teaching boys that it’s okay to cry.

Boys can cry and I will hug them bc it’s okay to be sad and cry

The point of this ad (to the second commenter) is that, in telling boys they can’t cry because they will be perceived as weak, you create emotionally-stunted men whose only method of expressing themselves is through violence and aggression. In saying “man” is interchangeable exclusively with “strong”, they grow up to believe that anyone who ISN’T a man (women, queer people) IS weak, and thus they have warrant to harm them.

These things are linked.

In ending toxic masculinity, you end misogyny and queerphobia. That’s why the ad says “Start with the boys”, because at such a young age, males are susceptible to all sorts of harmful ideals. I myself was, and it’s taken me almost 20 years to wash them off, and you know what? There’s still more to do.

In creating emotionally-healthy young boys, you create an environment where men respect others who are different to them. In ending traditional masculinity, you end patriarchy.

"I think that every choice is political. When you decide that a woman can be a character of her own and not have to fall in love with the f***ing guy, that’s a political choice. When you choose that they can speak in their own language and be subtitled, that’s a political choice. I think it’s very important for us to understand that we are all — the whole world — in the same robot. It’s this f***ing planet. No matter who you are, what you like to do, whatever your race or whatever your religion, we’re all human. And I think it’s really great to make a movie that celebrates that diversity."

Q: I really appreciate the fact that you have non-American actors speaking their native languages, instead of making it seem like everyone in the world speaks English like it usually is in most Hollywood movies. Why is Hollywood so allergic to subtitles? Interview in Today Online with Guillermo del Toro, 11/07/2013

Sometimes it really hits me that people who just watched the Harry potter movies don’t know teddy lupin or peeves or that Dudley’s a good guy in the end or that Harry potter was one of the sassiest kids ever and I feel really sad for them

i’ll never not be angry that “simmons had boyfriends” was a deleted scene

it’s just so very important

it’s basically jemma simmons saying “yeah i hooked up with that guy once. he’s hot but boring. hey don’t look so shocked i’m beautiful and smart”

it’s jemma simmons smashing down a bunch of wrong characteristics that this fandom made up for her

it’s jemma simmons being like “um excuse you i’m attractive and i have a sex life?”

The first transgender suicide hotline in the US

transphysics:

For the first time, there is a hotline in the US that is staffed entirely by transgender people, to serve transgender people.  Everyone in the trans community needs to be spreading this around.  Lives could be saved.

You can reach Trans Lifeline at 877-565-8860

This always bugged me about sports fans.

“NEEEERD!”  “You, sir, are wearing cheese.”

I think about this all the time

So at a con I was working last year, we were sharing the hotel with a national fraternity organization who was holding their annual meeting. While the younger members of the organization were… not the most respectful, one of my fellow staff told me about being in an elevator with an older gentleman from the organization and being asked, “What’s going on with all these costumes?”

They saw the opportunity and responded perfectly: “You know how, at sports games or bars, people will wear jerseys or paint their faces or chests or wear cheesehead hats for teams they like? Same thing, but we’re doing it for this show, not a sports team.”

The older gentleman thought for a moment and said, “That makes perfect sense. I get it now.”

I always thought the cheese hat was like a weird joke in this comic but apperently its an actual thing wow.

year-of-the-faith asked: Hi, I'm not really understanding the anon thing that's happening, why are we turning off anon over New Year's Eve?

queen-of-the-rising-demons:

impossiblefandoms:

So basically what’s happening is that over the past few days an anon hate attack has been targeting certain blogs run by people who are depressed/anxious/suicidal etc. The anons first attacked the Supernatural fandom (queen-of-the-rising-demons is an example of this) we’ve already lost 5 people to suicide because of the attack as of today. In the early hours of today the group of anon haters started spreading and targeting other fandoms such as:

Doctor Who,

Sherlock,

Superwholock

Phandom,

Troyler fandom,

American Horror Story,

Hetalia,

Homestuck,

Attack on Titan,

Harry Potter,

and many more.

Now there’s rumour of a full on hate attack, on as many people as they can, regardless of mental conditions mentioned in previous posts. There’s rumours that this attack will happen on New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day. Pleasepleaseplease spread the word and warn people to either; turn off their askboxes if they don’t want to be affected by the attack, or leave their askboxes open and prepare for the fact that they may be targeted.

We can survive this, fandoms are family, and family don’t end with blood.

- impossiblefandoms

I urge my followers to signal boost the shit out of this. The initial raid was bad enough. Please for the sake of your well being, turn off anon. I made the wrong decision when I was attacked and I don’t want anyone else making the same mistake. Please, if not from anyone else, hear it from me. Turn your anon off.

Have we ever discussed the fact that 2001 - 2012 Disney channel’s shows all had strong female leads, with the exception of Zack and Cody but they had a black man in charge, a smart poor white blonde girl and a dumb rich Asian so still beautifully diverse.

Disney was 100% female empowerment and showed diversity. Who did they employ to create the shit they have today?

Of the shows with girls as leads, two of them were POC and their heritage was actively acknowledged throughout the show.
We have a Wizards of Waverly Place episode featuring a quincenera and we have That’s So Raven, which actually did a lot to talk about body image and addressed the issue of antiblack racism.

Not to mention Zack and Cody had a working single mother (a divorcee at that!!) who was respected, strong, and amazing. Also a PoC bellhop who was a crucial role and in nearly every episode, and whose heritage was always known and respected.

That’s So Raven had a lovely and diverse cast of friends/family, tackled topics that every teenager faces, like stress from school and work, body positivity and racism that runs in our country, all while still having banter that was classic in Disney.

This also doesn’t even brush on the animated series that Disney had at this time, like Lilo and Stitch, The Proud Family, Kim Possible, and American Dragon Jake Long, which all had either strong female leads, PoC, or a mix of both.
