[At the end of the movie there is a scene with a child that bring a message of hope after all that has happened…] That scene is very dear to my heart because it came out of the conversation that I was having with the writers and I said ‘I feel like we need a seven-year-old, we need me as seven-year-old, you as seven-year-old, all of us as seven-year-old’ at the center of the film somehow to truly show what Spider-Man is really about. And his courage in the face of something huge, you know, the image that we all know from Tiananmen Square of the tank and the small person just stopping in front of the tank, and the power of one human, the power of one life, the power that Spider-Man and Peter Parker possess is the power that is reflected in everybody us. That’s why this character is loved so much. We all have that ability to change the world by changing ourself, by saying no or by saying yes, or by becoming who is supposed to be in the fabric of the world. So, yes, that character is very important to the film and to me because it is representative, you know, David and Goliath. That’s why Spider-Man is so beautiful, ‘cause he is the skinny kid. - Andrew Garfield
