BLODEUWEDD from Middle Welsh, blodeu ‘flowers, blossoms’ & gwedd ‘face, aspect’

She was created from flowers by the great magicians Math and Gwydion to be the wife of Lleu, cursed as he was to never find a human wife. However, she proved treacherous, and was plotting against Lleu with her lover. Blodeuwedd was punished for this by being transformed into the bird despised by all other birds and cursed never to see the sun, the owl.
