It’s called the Yule Cat. The legend is generally told to children in small in northern Europe villages; to get them to knit themselves a new sweater or such before yule. As a reward they would not be eaten by the gaint Yule Cat.

Whom in my opinion looks much like grumpy cat. Can I get a grumpy cat here people?

It’s basically now a story to get workers/children to work hard/behave. Those who finished all their work on time receive new clothes for Christmas; those who were lazy did not, and are are eaten. The Yule Cat could tell who the lazy children were because they did not have at least one new item of clothing for Christmas, and they would be sacrificed to the Yule Cat. This reminder also tends to spur children into doing their chores [x]
