I still cannot believe the fact that Zuko left Mai without an explanation, and yet she still sacrificed herself to save him. She knew that there was no possible way for her to beat Azula, she knew she’d strike her down right there and then. Otherwise, if Mai’s life wasn’t in danger, why would Ty Lee intervene? She intervened because she understood the consequences of betraying Azula. And Mai did, too. Nevertheless she was ready to die for him, even when she thought that he didn’t love her back. I don’t think people realize how much she loved him.
