They contemplated letting go of the pilot, but instead the co-pilot refused & muscled through despite the freezing temperatures and the extreme danger to the rest of the airplane and managed to land. The pilot being sucked out the window was back to work a couple of weeks later. The whole story reads like something out of a movie.
