Anyway where are my Fullmetal Alchemist/Pacific Rim AUs.

It works in either direction, with some tweaking.

Yancy and Raleigh Becket try to perform human transmutation and Yancy ends up fused to a massive fuckoff suit of armor and Raleigh loses his left arm (the one with the circuit burns) and his right leg (the one Lady Danger loses at the end of the movie) and Pentecost is Mustang, obviously, and he’s not dating his second in command, she’s his brilliant daughter Mako who is very taken aback by the Fullmetal Alchemist who is polite and soft-spoken and smiles easily but sadly.  Herc is Hughes and instead of killing him they kill his son, an arrogant but undeniably competent alchemist.  Alternatively, Herc is Mustang and Pentecost is a much grimmer Hughes.

Edward and Alphonse Elric become Jaeger pilots because the world is coming to a fucking end and then a disaster happens and Ed is alone, and then Mustang shows up to recruit him to save the world and tries to pair him with everyone under the sun and finally throws one of their mechanics at him and said mechanic (Winry) is OUTRAGED that they’re drift compatible because SHE HAS REAL WORK TO DO that’s not hotrodding around in a GIANT FUCKOFF ROBOT but also no she is absolutely not turning down a chance to pilot that giant fuckoff robot, get in, Elric.  Obviously in this AU their Jaeger’s AI (IDK, Fullmetal Alchemy or something, they call her pilots the Fullmetal Boys) is high key possessed by Al’s memory imprint.  And Riza is LOCCENT at the last Shatterdome.  She and Mustang used to be pilots together but they aren’t anymore for reasons that they won’t tell anyone.

Everyone else can be fitted in as necessary.  Go forth and find me these AUs.

*slams hands* man im curious. People following me who haven’t read or watched FMA (bless your patient hearts) what’s the most confusing thing about the series you’ve seen me say/reblog/tag?

I’m a huge slut for out-of-context interpretation

Congratulations anon you stumbled upon THE SHOW’S VERY OWN FAVORITE RECURRING JOKE

The little one, Ed, is in fact the Fullmetal Alchemist. There are at least 10+ instances in the show of some secondary characters being like “Hey the Fullmetal Alchemist and his brother are here” *both look to Ed and Al* “Yes I understand why they call him Fullmetal in that large suit of armor also who’s the short kid?”

I hardcore headcanon that Ed became something of a mythical figure to the Amestrian military (and probably Amestrian public) after the Promised Day

Like immediately afterward he goes home and stays home to help Al recover, then travels the West as like a scholar, then settles down with Winry and has kids–it’s pretty obvious he never went back to the military at any point during that, and that he’s stayed well and far out of the public eye.

So what’s that leave the military with? “Hey you heard of Edward Elric?” “Oh yeah isn’t he that dude who passed the state alchemy exam at 12, punched God in the face, toppled the whole military coup with Fuhrer Mustang, and vanished? Yeah he had a cubby here for like…4 years.”

And with so many people knowing half-truths about what really happened in Amestris, I fully believe that hundreds of fantastically stupid and marginally correct rumors spread about Ed. “I heard Ed Elric met God twice.” “I heard he’s the only person to ever successfully break the core law of alchemy.” “I heard he’s a 4,000 year old prophet who discovered immortality and that’s why he’s so skilled.” “I heard he fought a tank.” “I heard God personally took his limbs away and that’s why he’s half-metal.”  “I heard he actually invented alchemy.” “I heard he once beat up Fuhrer Mustang with his own hands.”

Like it’s the most central, prominent piece of small talk among new recruits–who knows the best little factoids about the child prodigy who hangs with God and saved the world and disappeared Jesus-style immediately after. Mustang walks out into press conferences, maximum security with reporters clamoring to lobby their questions at the leader of the entire nation, and somehow he always ends up with a flood of “Can you confirm?” tall tales about Ed.

“Fuhrer, is it true that Edward Elric discovered how to transmute his soul into a higher plane of existence and so he quit the military to achieve the status of a god?”

“Edward Elric is a 32 year old man who lives in a farmhouse out east and raises sheep part-time. Last I heard from him he was learning how to make raspberry pie and trying to teach his daughter how to count to 7. Who the hell feeds you this information? Next Question

  • Al: Say something nice about Colonel Mustang.
  • Ed: ...His wife is nice.
  • Riza: Thank you Edward.

Need I go on? Go watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Fullmetal alchemist also tackled the issues of imperialism, genocide, PTSD, friendly fire, racism, war brutality, and military corruption unflinchingly. “Most military commanders are killed by their own disgusted soldiers.” indeed.

nicroburst asked: So I saw your story about Soul eater and got a laugh out of it, I was curious what you've watched since that fateful day?

Actually I’ve been pretty busy with college, so I mostly have a few that I rewatch a bunch (although this summer I’m planning to go hard and put myself through all of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in one fell swoop, pray for me). Let’s see…

I love FMA 03 a lot, I’m currently subjecting my roommate to the pain, it’s fun. I’d probably say it’s my favorite anime (to repeat, I have not seen Brotherhood yet, and am working on it).

I love Soul Eater, of course, I know it pretty well by now.

I’ve seen most of Death Note although it didn’t really do it for me (might’ve been the company, tbh, should probably give it another try).

I’ve seen some of Attack on Titan, which I LOVED because I am a sick twist, but then it was taken off the platform I was streaming it from and also I find subs very hard to watch (yay ADHD), so I haven’t seen most of it.

I like Kaze no Stigma, which is ridiculous and magicky and on Hulu. Fire magic, demons, dubious deals with nebulous all-powerful spirits, fucked up family dynamics, the works. It’s absurd, I think it’s great.

My roommate loves Hetalia and I’m enough of a history nerd to get a huge kick out of it.

I meant to watch Fairy Tale but I got crazy busy around episode four and keep forgetting to go back, so I don’t think that counts.

I watched Black Butler on the recommendation of the same guy who showed us Soul Eater, and really loved the first season and never got around to the second.

My roommate and I watch Ouran when we’re tired/stressed, so we watch Ouran a LOT at school, and we also watch a few other…um…I’m going to admit that we call them ‘garbage animes’ which basically means that we really love them but would also never actually recommend them to another human being, ever. These are things like Seven Deadly Sins on Netflix, and having now been told that piece of information, I naturally expect you to take it to your grave. (Okay, IMO it’s great fun, but it has a lot of what you might call…common anime problems re: women, etc, so YMMV and all that.)

Obviously Avatar: The Last Airbender, but that’s Western animation, so.

As long as we’re on the subject, though, obligatory plug for my favorite non-anime animated thing, though: X-Men Evolution. It’s great, I love it, I am such an X-Men nerd it’s sad.

Um…yeah, I’m sure I’ve forgotten some stuff. But that’s what I can think of right now.

Moran watches anime. Who’d'a thunk.

Aaaanyway, I’d say “tell no one”, but I’m on mobile and I didn’t think it through and am too lazy to retype this whole thing when I get wifi back on my laptop, so. Whatever. I have no shame anyway, come the fuck at me.
