Bernie Sanders: “No, I Will Not Yield!” (6/4/1992)

down-to-venus:

Rep. Sanders starts out by commending Rep. Maxine Waters and Rep. Ronald Dellums for their amendment, which was added to the defense bill that would:

(1) repeal the Missile Defense Act of 1991; (2) terminate the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization within the Defense Department and reassign its functions to other military departments and functions; and (3) limit Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) activities to basic research and fund basic research at $1.2 billion in fiscal year 1993.

Then Sanders goes all in about why this amendment is necessary.

Good luck, Bernie! I believe he’s the only reasonable candidate for President this year.

Listen, sweetheart, I’m supporting Bernie Sanders because I think he’s the BEST GODDAMN CANDIDATE.  If a guy, a girl, or any other sentient human being wants to date my fine ass, they’d better accept that I make my choices with no regard for what will make them like me.

This is what the Iowa Democratic race looks like Tuesday morning. Hillary Clinton’s campaign is claiming victory, while Bernie Sanders’ says it’s still too close to call.

All! This is the reason why we all need to TURN THE FUCK UP. TURN. UP. Register!

Look at the Entrance Polls stating who is coming in (Squeezed together for visibility)

image

VOTERS 17-29 (18% of voters) = BERNIE SANDERS BY 84% v. CLINTON’S 14%

VOTERS 30-44 (19% of voters) = BERNIE SANDERS BY 58% v. CLINTON’S 37%

37% of voters ARE UNDER 45.

64% of voters ARE OVER 45.

THIS PROVES RIGHT HERE, YOUR VOTE MATTERS.

Register the FUCK to vote. And TURN UP. Just a few more waking up and getting over to the caucuses would have turned a TIE into a WIN. Just think on how the primaries would go! Register! Party affiliate! And don’t stop at voting just for President, but get yourselves heard by picking reps so Congress AND STATE REPS AND GOVERNORS realizes that they can’t “just listen to the old generation” anymore.

Change that voter percentage so all of you all’s voices can be heard. Up that percentage! Do whatever it takes to show up! We have truly the ability to change things if we JUST SHOW UP.

PLEASE VOTE, EVERYONE. THIS IS IMPORTANT!

The only important thing that happened during the Dem debate.

He is garbage.

but but but the 1%!!!!!!

Ok hold on, I actually just read the article and it actually seems the people who said “oh he’s garbage” or whatever didn’t actually read what they reblogged.

His plan involves increasing taxes, yes, but he’s also planning to do away with private insurance premiums. You’re actually saving money via that plan, so ultimately better off financially. Put simply, private insurance premium going away means all that money back in your pocket. Then, you pay SOME of that money to taxes. Taxes go up, BUT you’re paying less than you’d have paid the private company. So yes, you’d be paying more taxes, but in total your expenses go down by thousands.

Read the things you reblog, dammit.

Uhhhh

You literally admitted he says he wants to increase taxes.

oh boo hoo, you pay a little bit more in taxes. how else do people expect shit to get done? -_-

… Really?

oh no my taxes are going to be more

and people nationwide will stop suffering from lack of healthcare

and maybe ending poverty will take a step in the right direction

and maybe private insurance companies will stop gouging people

and hey I’ll actually have a net positive after all this since it saves me money in the long run

and hey maybe we’ll be on par with every other 1st world country on the planet

and hey maybe parents will call the hospital when their kids are sick instead of waiting it out because their insurance rates are too much for them to afford

but

oh no my taxes are going to be more

Same rhetoric as obamacare. Premiums are up, coverage is down, but hey. At least everyone….no wait.

Government run healthcare is the biggest croc of idiocy alive today. Medicare, medicaid, obamacare, all failures. All dying. But juuuuuust one more right? This time it will work!

so what r ur opinions on minecraft?

So… The NHS…

Guys, Sanders is asking for a 2.2% health care tax hike to cover health care costs. If your household is earning $70k a year, that’s $1,540 a year in extra taxes.

There will also be a payroll tax levied on employers of 6.7%. Assuming the entire cost is passed on to workers (and I guarantee you it won’t be - customers will also pick up part of the tab), that’s an extra $4,690, bringing the total to $6,230 a year.

Obamacare average household premiums were about $16,800 in 2015, and are still rising. That’s at least 2.7 times higher than the tax hike (a highly conservative estimate), and will probably be higher as health care costs continue to rise.

You will not need to pay for premiums in a single payer system. You’re literally saving over thousands of dollars a year if you’re a middle class citizen, and even more if you’re a working class citizen.

There are plenty of other examples of nations that have implemented a single payer system, and their citizens are paying significantly less than Americans.

Do your research before complaining about taxes.

reblogging for hard numbers

Reblogging for hard numbers. This is what George Carlin meant when he said that the owners of our country don’t want an educated populace - they want people just smart enough to do the shit work, and just dumb enough not to know how badly they’re being screwed over compared with the rest of the civilized world. Everyone who whined “but TAXES” and “he is GARBAGE” is a living example of how this plan is working out for the owners of our society, the 1%.

ALSO. The generally used cut-off for ‘middle class’ in political debates is a person making $250,000 a year. Are any of you even fucking CLOSE to that? ‘Cause I kind of doubt it. By that definition someone can ‘raise taxes on the middle class’ and still not raise the taxes of 99% of the people I know. So when someone mentions ‘middle class’, you damn well need to ask what numbers they’re using. It’s totally possible that they’re not talking about and yours at all. The tax code certainly makes a distinction between those of us making under $50k and those making over $200k, and so would Sanders’ plan!

I live in Australia and I had to have a brain tumor removed a few weeks ago and I know for a fact, because of the research I did prior to my surgery, that if I lived in a country without significantly subsidised health care I would not even know I was sick, because American doctors do not recommend an MRI for people presenting with my symptoms – because of the cost

I would literally be fucking dying if not for government run health care. Everyone against it can shut the fuck up forever.

slightly higher taxes so everyone–literally everyone–can access higher education and healthcare??? i don’t understand why or HOW people are angry about this

Oh look it’s communismkills being wrong again like in almost every post they’ve ever written

tl; dr: “Increasing tax on the middle class–which most people are not part of–to save money for everybody.”

REMINDER: About half of the states allow 17 year olds to vote in the primaries if they will be 18 years of age by the actual election. Check if your state let’s you do this and you can help if it is a state that allows this!

PS. Most polls think Sanders will lose because those polls target registered democrats who have voted before.

These tend to skew older and represent the ‘most likely voters’.

Prove them wrong.

It’s funny how Hillary Clinton will nae nae on stage, reference Beyoncé, try to court Latinos by saying she’s an Abuela, reference Star Wars, and literally change her accent depending on her audience, doing anything to appeal to everyone yet an old, unfashionable, unkempt, Jewish, socialist is winning with millennials by a 2-1 (and growing) margin just by being true to himself. Hmmm

The problem with Hillary and the people running her campaign is that they are running on the same mindset as everyone of that generation: they truly believe that millennials and younger voters “only care about memes” and are uninterested in politics or making the world better. What they don’t understand is that this younger generation isn’t uninterested in politics or the political process, but that they see American politics for what they are: a game of broken promises, where you can barely differentiate between liberals and conservatives as this point. The Democrats and Republicans running for office are all more invested in the interests of the rich and powerful than they are of the people. This generation isn’t untierested in politics, it’s just tired of playing a game that is clearly rigged. The reason Bernie is wrecking every other Democratic candidate with young voters is because he’s actually speaking about issues that this generation cares about, mirroring their fears and anger, and providing plans for possible solutions to problems like income inequality, the rising cost of higher education, the racism embedded in our social systems, the rising cost of living with no rise in wages anywhere on sight, etc.

You can whip and nae nae all you fucking want and wish the Force to be with me, but what I really wanna know is why students are leaving universities with $30K+ of debt to a shit job market to be underpaid for their skills, or why our police departments are being given access to military grade weaponry, or why black people can’t drive without being harassed by police officers, up to a point where they will sometimes end up dead. Hillary can eat me.

78, 80, 80, and 83.

These are what the ages of four supreme court justices will be in 2016, which means the next president very well could choose the next four supreme court justices when those four retire within the next eight years.

Why does this matter? Because the supreme court control all our laws, and we need supreme court justices that will be on the right side of the history.

Who picks the supreme court justices? The president.

Who would pick the justices the best? Bernie Sanders, who has a track record stemming back to marching with MLK with civil rights, has been a supporter of LGBT+ rights since before the 60′s, been against the war on drugs, against going to war for profit gain, isn’t owned by any one (he will not take any donations from corporations), believes in womens rights, believes that free higher education is a right, advocates for single payer healthcare, and is against big banks (wants to break them up into smaller entities).

This is the president who we need to choose the next four supreme court justices.

This is the president who owes no one, but the people who voted for him.

This is the president who hasn’t swayed from their beliefs for over 40 years.

This is the president who has always been on the right side of the history against all odds.

This is the president we need.

PLS READ.

Finally

it’s also worth mentioning that those four justices are Scalia (80), Kennedy (80), Ginsberg (83) & Breyer (78) - Scalia & Kennedy are both Reagan appointed justices who’ve been the main momentum behind most of the regressive decisions by the supreme court. Breyer is part of the liberal wing & Ginsberg is our Lord & Savior

so the point being is that the next president will have the opportunity to fundamentally shift the balance of power for the american judicial system.

if bernie is that president we could be looking forward to a liberal political climate for another 20-30 years.

Imagine the power and growth of individual rights and equality of 20-30 years of liberal politics.

This is why we need Bernie Sanders to be the one to choose.

I cannot stress this enough for the 2016 election

willisninety-six:

If Bernie loses the primaries: YOU STILL MUST VOTE

Tumblr’s become so attached to Bernie that I’m not sure y’all are still gonna vote in the election if he loses. I will vote for him, I know most of you might too, but we must still be prepared for something like that :/

I know it would mean that you will have lost the one candidate you believed in the most. I know it will possibly mean voting for Hillary over the Republicans, when all of you don’t like her that much, I understand, believe me.

BUT HERE’S WHY YOU STILL VOTE:

1. Because are you going to give the Republicans a greater chance of victory?

I know it seems like HRC and the Republicans are one in the same to most of you, but if both HRC and the GOP REALLY dislike each other? You can tell that’s not exactly true. Granted when compared to Bernie, Hillary seems conservative, but Bernie’s super liberal where Clinton reflects most of the party, center-left, like Obama. She’s not the progressive you all want, but she sure as hell ain’t conservative. Bernie has positive things to say about Hillary, and, let’s face it, she is still a better choice than any GOP candidate.

2. Not voting means you are still deciding who has a better chance of winning in the election, don’t be fooled.

Don’t think that Bernie not winning the Dem nomination means that there is no hope at all for change and that voting for any Democrat is useless, if you don’t vote, you give the Republicans a greater chance of winning, just like I said above.  And you know what? Good. Because that’s exactly what they want.
Why would they want young people voting if it means they might vote Democrat? Think about that hard.

3. BECAUSE BERNIE WANTS YOU TO.

Seriously, he released a whole video on how “elites want big money to dominate the political process” and this:

And he KNOWS they don’t want that. You will not be making a positive change if you don’t vote, hence he is saying you will make the problem worse, if you avoid voting.

This is not only for this election. It is 2016 and beyond. Don’t forget that, please.
