Aaaaaay, hell yeah, I fucking live for Star Trek AU’s.
All right, so I’m
going to take this to mean that one AU where the fair ship Revolution is out on her five-year mission under the command of Captain
Lamarque, a steely-eyed woman with a reputation for even-handed care of her crew
whether they support her or not. Her
first officer, Commander Enjolras is a communications specialist, beyond his
command training, and everyone who knew him before his commission jokes that he
chose it because he always wore bright red anyway. Those jokes are mostly made by his two
closest friends from the Academy, both of whom went out of their way to get
assigned to the same ship—Combeferre, the youngest out of the three doctors on
board (and half-Betazoid who will cut you
if you ask about his species’ “sensuous nature”), and Courfeyrac, the ship’s
counselor (technically a non-com, but still part of the crew).

This conversation, from this untitled Sam/Steve/Bucky friendship ficlet.
“It’s Captain
America, Barnes,” Clint said, a laugh hidden beneath the deadpan. “He doesn’t need taking care of.”
Bucky stopped and
gave the plane at large a pitying sort of look.
“You poor sonsabitches, you fell for it.
You fell for the spiel. Let me
tell you somethin’, when I say I left for five minutes, I mean five goddamn
minutes. I turn my back on this little
shit, last time I’m gonna see him before I go off and get my ass shot at by a
bunch of dickless Nazis, and he runs off and signs up to be a guinea pig for Stark. I wasn’t even out of the city, I was a hundred yards
away.”
“So
compared to that, this seems like a much better plan, don’t you think?” Steve
asked, grinning.
BECAUSE I FELT LIKE BUCKY NEEDED TO GET THAT OFF HIS CHEST, AND I AM PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF IT.
I’m also very proud of literally all the dialogue in this untitled Rogue/Remy ficlet, but I couldn’t pick a favorite bit.

Okay
I see what you’re saying there but WHAT IF WE DID BOTH??? This got so long, I’m sorry, I got
overexcited about fairy tales and I wrote 5K in like a day. (No for real this is almost 5000 words,
Jesus, self, what are you doing.)
Enjolras is a
wished-for child, and he’s told as much every day by his mother, who bought his
life with a few drops of blood on white silk in a gold embroidery hoop. From the minute he learns to talk, he’s as
fair as the sun and as sharp as her needle, and his country adores their young
prince with their whole heart. His
mother Queen Lamarque is a good ruler and her Prince Consort is nice enough so
all is well, and Enjolras grows up believing passionately in the rights of the people. His tutors despair of him as a monarch but
are delighted with him as a politician—it’s very strange for everyone.
And then the Queen
dies, and everything goes to pieces, because the dowager Prince Regent isn’t a
ruler by nature and Enjolras is still too damned young to take her place and
it’s all quite a mess. Vital government
services are falling through, taxes are going uncollected or over-collected,
the generals of the army are making warning noises about neighboring countries
taking advantage of their weakened state, and everything is teetering on the
edge of chaos.
