“ron and hermione wouldn’t work out they’re too different”
which is exactly wHY THEY WORK OUT FOR FUCK’S SAKE
they’re not just 'opposites attract’ all right
they
balance
each
other
out
are we clear
They do balance each other out, but they are also VERY MUCH ALIKE.
1) They are both battle their insecurities. They sometimes do that in different ways. Hermione’s constant study is fueled by her fearful desire that she “hope(s) will be enough”. Ron takes a different route feeling that no matter how hard he were to work that he will never best his siblings.
2) They both are fiercely loyal. What other two friends would have stuck by Harry to the bitter end? We seem them both stand up to others for Harry, for each other, and for people they care about. Even after feeling that Hermione dismissed his feelings over Scabbers, Ron is “snapped out of it” by worrying about Hagrid and Buckbeak’s fate (not to mention his standing up to a lunatic shape-shifting mass murderer on a broken leg to try and save his friend). Even when Hermione is distraught over Lavender she does not even consider wounding Ron with the information that she confunded McLaggen.
3) They are both passionate. They disagree; they bicker; they fume, but that is part of who they are. They challenge each other. They don’t back down, and I for one, think that they love that about each other. Hermione would never want a partner that patronized her or treated her like she could not handle herself. Ron would be miserable with a woman that couldn’t think for herself or who only agreed with everything he said.
4) They are both intelligent.
Not only is Ron intelligent he may be even more naturally so than Hermione (hear me out before you automatically dismiss this idea).Hermione does have natural intelligence, but she does so well in large part because SHE WORKS SO DILIGENTLY!! She reads all of her books BEFORE starting Hogwarts because she wants to be successful. Her top marks are a result of her work ethic.Ron’s intelligence is more instinctual. He does not work as hard as Hermione (perhaps in part because he fells that he cannot impress anyone because his older brothers did it all before him;perhaps he is just an adolescent boy)
I love these two as much as they love each other!! When you read the books carefully it is obvious that are perfectly suited. Movie adaptations and sensationalized soundbites have rocked this ship, but they will never sink it!
Yes !! Excellent addition to my post. Yes. I love this a lot.
i have a lot of secret hermione headcanons like. she was insufferable at muggle school as well and generally not well liked. she was the girl whose parents were both dentists and she read too many books and tried to talk to people in her class about them but they generally thought she was trying to show off. so when she gets into hogwarts she throws herself into the new culture and reads as many books as her parents will pay for, including her text books and several history books and when her parents refuse to buy the unabridged history of magic and also some legends, she seriously considers hiding out in flourish and blotts so she can just read it in the bookstore. but she wears her robes around the house and sends about forty letters to hogwarts asking questions about the school year and the course load and how the grading scale works and if they’re very sure they’ve told her everything she’s going to need. and her parents are worried about her but they had been already? because she has such a hard time making friends. and they hope she’ll be able to make friends at hogwarts.
the first letter she sends them is full of descriptions of the castle and the sorting and background information on gryffindor and she mentions that she met neville and he’s very sweet, and the classes are so interesting, and she loves them very much! and the next few are also like that and kind of strained. and they suspect (correctly) that she again does not have friends.
a couple weeks into november, she sends them a letter full of complaints about ron’s study habits and how he’s teaching her wizard chess and how both he and harry are very brave but also not very good students. and she tells them about hagrid, who is eight and a half feet tall and the nicest person she has ever met.
they stop worrying as much until they get a letter at the end of term saying that hermione has broken about 20 school rules and also congratulations your daughter scored over 100% on almost every exam.
At which point they seriously consider having Words with their daughter about appropriate responses to situations and also is her headmaster insane because that letter seemed awfully approving? But she comes home and stands differently and when they bring the letter up she squares her jaw and straightens her spine and says a few stubborn words about her friends and protecting people and…you know, they’re still a little concerned, but she looks fierce as fire for a moment before she smiles and asks if they got her final scores. They would never have admitted it, but they worried about their brilliant little girl in the house of the brave, because wouldn’t she have enjoyed the house of the wise more, a whole house full of people as curious and intelligent as she is. But when she stares back at them, bold as brass, like she knows she did right and doesn’t care what the rules have to say on the matter, they decide that Gryffindor is right where she belongs.
When they meet the fabled Ron and Harry over the summer, they expect something very different from the diffident bespectacled boy and the bouncing redhead. But Hermione falls in with them like a puzzle piece, a bickering irritated puzzle piece but a perfect fit nonetheless, and for a moment all three of them have that flash, of straight backs and square jaws and the determination to face the world, fierce as fire.
I’ve just come to the realisation that Hermione Granger probably memory charmed her parents and packed them off to Australia long before she told Harry and Ron she’d done it at the beginning of Deathly Hallows.
She literally never goes home from Goblet of Fire onwards, spending her summers with the boys instead. In GoF she’s remarkably blase about her teeth, something her dentist parents would have noticed and felt hurt about.
If I were to guess, I’d say she probably did it after the wizarding world cup when she’d seen exactly how the wizarding world treats muggles and decided not to let that happen to her folks. Hermione knows which way the wind is blowing and gets in early. She’d be more than capable of doing it.
…Oh my God.
hermione is fucking ruthless and i will fight anyone who tells me otherwise
that was her “negative” gryffindor trait
was she incredibly brave and courageous and loyal? yes
but she was also vicious and violent and trapped a woman as a beetle in a jar for over a year because she pissed her off
Okay but the Hat was just like, “Sure kid whatever” when Harry requested against Slytherin. What kind of conversation was this?
NO NEVILLE I CAN’T DO THAT YOU HAVE THE HEART OF A LION
THE WIZARD OF OZ WILL GIVE YOU COURAGE NEVILLE
HAKUNA MATATA NEVILLE
DO NOT RECITE THE DEEP MAGIC TO ME NEVILLE I WAS THERE WHEN IT WAS WRITTEN
Okay, I’ve seen this post a couple of times & something just occurred to me.
Harry was pretty 50/50 Gryffindor/Slytherin from what I remember the hat saying (and according to the wiki blurb on hatstalls having a fairly equal split of traits from more than one house is the common cause of them) so when he asked not to be put into Slytherin the hat was fine with taking that preference into account and put him in Gryffindor. (Also the fact that the hat said he could be great and powerful in Slytherin and Harry’s response was pretty much no I don’t want that pretty clearly demonstrates non-Slytherin traits.)
On the other hand, the above doesn’t mention the hat being at all indecisive about where to put Neville. The hat wasn’t going “hmmm this is tough you’re pretty Gryffindor but you’re kind of Hufflepuff too”. It was probably more like “Yep! Gryffindor for sure!” Followed by Neville being all “No I’m totally a Hufflepuff!” and then proceeding to argue with the hat about it for almost 5 minutes. (Which when you think about it is a super Gryffindor thing to do.) By the end the hat was probably like oh my god kid you’re so Gryffindor you’re practically Godric’s heir shut up and get sorted there already!
“child one day you will pull Gryffindor’s sword from me and i swear that sounds weird now and is going to sound EVEN WEIRDER when you hit puberty but give it a couple more years and seriously kid IT’S GONNA BE FUCKING RAD JUST GO INTO THE DAMN HOUSE”
Also I’m trying to decide if Hermione would have had a preference for Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. I FEEL like Ravenclaw but also maybe she was such a good-two-shoes 11 year old that she refused to argue with the hat. I can’t decide!!
Hermione in the book specifically says on the Hogwarts Express that she thinks Gryffindor sounds ‘by far the best’ and that Ravenclaw ‘wouldn’t be too bad’. It’s pretty clear what her preference is.
