#mutants are a metaphor

People ask why I like the X-Men so much. Shit like this.

Stan Lee made X-Men to address all the social issue through his passion: comics. That’s why X-Men is generally independent from his others works. Professor X represented Martin Luther King Jr while Magneto represented Malcom X. When the mutants were forced to register as mutants, that represented the Jews being forced to wear the Star of David. He even addressed gay rights. There was a disease that was spreading rapidly. It was believed by the general public to be mutant-based disease. Incredible hostility towards mutants was a result of the disease. This represented the AIDS outbreak in the 80s that was believed to be a “gay disease”. There are tons more.

Tags: xmen *sighs dreamily* i love the xmen so much like this movie didn't dazzle me i have a lot of complaints (a lot of which involve kurt because JESUS) but THIS THIS IS WHAT I LOVE 'BECAUSE WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO' and the great tragedy of charles and magneto isn't the broken friendship or loyalty it's the fact that ULTIMATELY they agree on that they agree that mutants shouldn't have to hide or be registered or risk being hurt for who they are but they differ so much on the execution magneto is so afraid of humanity and good lord i would be afraid too in his position but for all his power erik lensherr lashes out like...well like a child watching his family die and charles has that fear yes he has fears for his students' safety but he will never really fear humanity like erik does charles believes that the world doesn't need to be burned down and rebuilt in order to be improved and erik is too broken to agree with him incidentally this is related to my spiel about how magneto is an exceptional monster but not much of a villain which you should feel free to ask me about ACTUALLY CONSIDER THIS A DIRECT REQUEST TO TALK TO ME ABOUT THE XMEN COME INTO MY INBOX AND LET ME CAPS LOCK IN YOUR DIRECTION
