“Did the diversity of this era made you realize you’re bisexual?“ I ask him.

“Well, no, not really,“  Captain America - Steve, he asked to be called over this interview - gives a charming, even playful - laugh. “I always knew I was bisexual. I’m sorry to say, you people are coming a little 70 odd years too late for that particular bomb.“

“Then, why now?“

At this, Steve stays silent for a moment, smile lost and when he looks at me I suddenly understand why so many people followed this man, why so many people still do.

“It was time.” And then, more light hearted. “That, and maybe I can make it so Fox News stop talking about me.“

IMPORTANT THINGS THE PUBLIC NEED TO KNOW

First of all my mom just celebrated her 49th birthday.  We went to San Andreas to enjoy some solid B-movie destruction and laugh at the science.

Second of all (as I have previously mentioned) my mom is bisexual as frick.  Like.  A perfect Kinsey three who raised me on a steady diet of Lucy Lawless and Lucy Liu as a motherfreaking badasses, among other gorgeous ladies.

Third of all my mom thinks that the fandom’s executive decision that Steve Rogers is also bisexual as frick is the best thing ever.

Fourth of all (and this is the real point here) my mom ships Steve/Peggy and Steve/Bucky with equal verve and as hardcore as anyone I’ve ever met.

I just needed to get that off my chest.  Carry on.

stacewindu:

Natalia Peggy Rogers, you are named after the two bravest, strongest, independent women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Tony Clint Bruce Thor Rogers, I am so sorry your uncles got hold of your birth certificate before me.

#that line made me just a little happy inside#because…really…that is what shield is supposed to be#we will be the support system you guys need as you fight the baddies we can’t#we will do the production and clean-up work so you can have the space to do your jobs#and we sacrifice every bit as much so we can protect people#shield#aou (via takiki16)

This was hands down one of my favorite scenes of the movie because I recognized so many people from Cap 2 and it made me so happy. Like not just tech guy who said no to Rumlow but also the guy who tried to get the doors shut was there and a few others. It makes me so happy to see all of them again and I hope we see them in future movies to because they’re awesome. Also can we talk about Tasha’s smile? Because you know she’s thinking about how *this* was the SHIELD she signed up for and how happy she is it does exist and isn’t just another let down.

Better with meta!

I fully believe that (like everyone else) Pietro and Wanda thought they were working with S.H.I.E.L.D., and had no idea until the start of this movie that it was really HYDRA, so they were under the impression that that was what S.H.I.E.L.D. was. People like Strucker, doing whatever they please with no concern for anything but gaining power. You will never convince me that at some point on the way back from Korea, Steve didn’t talk to them about this, and assure them that they’re right to feel the way they do, that the version of S.H.I.E.L.D. they joined was everything wrong with it. Not just the fact that it was controlled by HYDRA, but that it was about dishing out punishment before crimes and gaining power even if innocent people get hurt along the way. And I think Steve would’ve told them about Peggy, about the purpose she originally helped found S.H.I.E.L.D. for–to protect the innocent.

So when Pietro turns to Steve and Natasha–S.H.I.E.L.D.’s inspiration and most loyal member, respectively–to ask them “this is S.H.I.E.L.D.?” and there’s that awed smile on his face, it’s not just about relief that they have backup. It’s seeing for the first time in years that there are people he and Wanda can count on. People who really will do what’s right. And seeing that if a mistake as gigantic as S.H.I.E.L.D. can turn into something great, so can they.

Okay, but imagine the first time Steve and Bucky hear the term “feminazi.” Some dudebro at a convention or public event the team is forced to go to calls a woman a feminazi, and Steve and Bucky just lose it and start yelling at the guy because they’ve lost friends to actual Nazis, and a woman standing up for her rights as a human being is not comparable to slaughtering millions of people.

It’s interesting to see Steve’s insecurity about his friendship with Bucky. Bucky was his best friend, and presumably his only friend. Steve idolized him. As he told Natasha and Sam: even when he had nothing, he had Bucky.

But Bucky? Bucky had a family – parents, probably some siblings. He likely had friends from school, work friends, and friends from army training. He had endless girlfriends. We know he was popular. Bucky had an entire life, and objectively, Steve was only a part of it.

Before Captain America, Bucky was Steve’s world, but Steve may not have been Bucky’s. And because of that, you can see Steve constantly second guess Bucky’s love for him. During CATFA, he doesn’t know if Bucky will follow him into war. In the CATWS funeral flashback, he doesn’t want to intrude on Bucky’s life (even though if the situation were reversed, you know he’d never let Bucky ‘get by on his own’). Even during the final CATWS fight scene, he says ‘You’re my friend’ instead of ‘We were friends’. He’s horrified that Bucky died following him, because Bucky had a life outside of Steve.

I don’t think Steve realized how important he is to Bucky until he broke the Soldier’s programming, just by existing.

Drift compatible Steve and Natasha

Holy shit, I never realised she shot out the glass so Steve could jump through it while he had her tucked under his arm

#i love this so much he’s just carrying her like she’s a cardboard box #and they’ve probably done this before #they have a combat maneuver that’s just ‘i’m just gonna pick you up to make it easier for you to shoot things’ #how much do you wanna bet it’s their version of the fastball special  (via capnromanoff)

I bet it started in New York when he first tossed her up from his shield so she could catch a ride on that Chitauri aircraft. “It’ll be fun,” she said. And it was fun, and they won, so later on they kinda looked at each other and sized each other up, thinking, huh. There’s potential here. So just for fun, again, they come up with all these weird ways to combine Steve’s brute strength and Natasha’s gymnastic agility, plus both of their lightning fast reflexes and ability to calculate angles and trajectories on the fly, minus a healthy sense of self-preservation on both sides. And Clint watches gleefully as they practice and makes his own insane suggestions (come on, do you really think CLINT BARTON would take a stand for safety consciousness in any situation?), and maybe they have a threeway combat maneuver (get your head out of the gutter) based on some wild trapeze stunt he remembers from the circus and they do it in the middle of a fight and their enemy just goes, WAIT, WHAT? And that is how SHIELD wins that particular battle that day.

I DID NOT THINK THIS POST COULD GET MORE PERFECT BUT IT DID

Emily Vancamp as Sharon Carter in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

Here’s an example of what we call a “soft no”. Sharon turns down Steve’s offer in a way that’s meant not to insult him but never actually uses the word “no”.

Steve clearly gets the message, though, and importantly offers to leave her alone. Sharon’s comment afterwards gives him an opportunity to try again later, but he doesn’t press and respects her rejection of his company even though it’s probably hurt his feelings a bit.

Just in case you ever wonder “What would Captain America do?”; there you go.

never do something steve rogers wouldn’t do.

Unless it’s jumping out of a plane without a parachute, you probably shouldn’t do that

I just have to add - I’ve seen interviews with Marvel people where they say that this scene demonstrates that Cap’s awkward with women and doesn’t know how to ask women out on a date.  And it drives me crazy, because - as the OP says - Steve behaved perfectly here.  It was a very charming, nonthreatening offer, and he accepted her rejection with good grace.  You can’t help but feel that to Hollywood, the fact that she said no means he asked badly - which is exactly how I’d expect Hollywood to think, namely, the idea that men should keep pressing and pushing women until they say yes

And I mean, yeah, he’s clearly a little awkward and uncomfortable talking to someone he thinks is attractive, but that’s FINE and he knows how to ask a woman out without making it seem dangerous to turn him down.  This is not a failure.  It is fine–no, scratch that, it’s GOOD to be a little nervous (or a lot nervous) talking to someone you like, because it means that you recognize them as a person and not just an object.  The decent guys who compliment me?  They’re nervous, they’re usually genuine in what they say to me (like for example Cap here), they ask from a distance (look how he’s not in her space, he’s down the hall, he’s not using his size or presence to make her feel obliged or intimidated), and they’re generally sweet when I turn them down, willing to take no for an answer.  The guys who get violent when I turn them down?  They’re cocky, because they’re confident I want to sleep with them just ‘cause I’m a girl.

Just to reiterate: it’s not a failure to be nervous around someone you’re asking out, and this is absolutely an A+ way to go about it.  Polite, charming, respectful.

You go, Cap.

Reminder that Steve Rogers was born in 1920, and Bucky Barnes was born in 1917, which means that Steve was in his early twenties during the war, and Bucky was in his mid twenties. I know that they’re both portrayed by 30 year old men, but really? They probably looked more like these guys:

Don’t forget that Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes had to grow up way too fast, not only because of the war, but because they were teenagers in the Great Depression, they were part of an extremely marginalized group during a time of extreme tension, and the whole dead parents thing. Don’t forget that Steve and Bucky probably never got to do dumb teenager things because they both had to do whatever work they could to stay afloat and then a WAR happened.

Think about all that pressure once Steve was “Captain America” and became a propaganda piece. Think about the atrocities of war that they’d have seen. Think about the fact that they both faced death. Think about the fact that Steve’s best friend died. THINK ABOUT HOW THESE KIDS ARE NOW SUDDENLY 95+ YEARS OLD. Think about Bucky, waking up and technically being maybe 27 and having to reconcile all the things HYDRA made him do as the Winter Soldier.

Peggy Carter was born in 1919. She is only a year older than Steve. She’s still in her twenties during Agent Carter, y’all. Let that sink in for a moment. She’s still in her twenties.

That flashback scene in The Winter Soldier with the “I’m with ya till the end of the line”? They were teenagers then. TEENAGERS.

REMINDER THAT THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGERS WERE ALL CHILDREN.

THIS IS NOT EVEN IN THE FOOTNOTES ON THE LIST OF THINGS THAT ARE OKAY
